I relate most to Gestalt perspectives on psychology and therapy. I think this is largely due to the approach to and honor given to dreams in the process of understanding oneself.
I had a dream last night about the basement flooding on our house and my parents' house. There were also tornadoes approaching - I believe there were two intertwined, but there may have been more.
Here is what I have found via google so far in relation to these themes:
item 1
dreams of floods represent emotional issues-was the water clear or muddy? Muddy represents unresolved, clear represents resolved ones. The Basement represents your unconscious/intuition. The appearance of the basement shows your unconscious state of mind and level of satisfaction. To dream that the basement is messy, signifies some confusion in which you need to sort out. It may also represent your perceived faults and shortcomings.
item 2
Disasters - Dreaming about natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods, is an indication there are many changes going on in your life.
um, yup.
item 3
Flood - If the flood was gentle and the water clear you will soon see an end to all the worries that have been plaguing you about a certain matter. But if the water was angry and muddy this denotes that you will have great trials and tribulations in life.
So what if the water was gentle but muddy? (because it was)
item 4
Flood - Your troubles will be short lived if it was a small flood. If the flood was large, you will have many worries.
Well, I'm not sure if this is reassuring or not. What do you consider a large flood? In the dream it was contained to the basement(s), but was pretty much to the top of the basement (near ceiling).
item 5
Water - To see water in your dream, symbolizes your unconscious and your emotional state of mind. Water is the living essence of the psyche and the flow of life energy. It is also symbolic of spirituality, knowledge, healing and refreshment. To see calm, clear water in your dream, signifies that you are in tune with your spirituality. It denotes serenity, peace of mind, and rejuvenation. To see muddy or dirty water in your dream, indicates that you are wallowing in your negative emotions. You may need to devote some time to clarify your mind and find internal peace. Alternatively, it suggests that your thinking/judgment is unclear and clouded. If you are immersed in muddy water, then it indicates that you are in over your head in a situation and are overwhelmed by your emotions. To dream that water is rising up in your house, signifies your struggles and overwhelming emotions.
item 6
BasementTo dream that you are in a basement symbolizes your unconscious mind and intuition. The appearance of the basement is an indication of your unconscious state of mind and level of satisfaction. It represents primal urges, animalistic desires and basic needs. To dream that the basement is in disarray and messy, signifies some confusion in which you need to sort out. These are things that you have "stored" away or put aside in your mind because you do not know what to do with it or you do not have the time to deal with it.
item 7
Tornadoes and other natural disasters represent emotional upheaval. Tornadoes specifically point to “Fear of Separation from Family Members.” There is a person in the situation you are experiencing where you may feel that if you tell them your true thoughts and feelings that you will lose them. Our fears of what might happen when we communicate honestly generally do not occur as we imagine. Tornadoes are a culmination of air in its most destructive capacity, pointing to the realm of thought (air). Look clearly at your fears and try to determine which are truly based on a possible reality, rather than an imagined “worst case” scenario. Trust your heart to tell you what to do. The pain we experience and perceive is truly a barometer of the Destruction we perceive being done. We often categorize experiences as small or large, depending on the loss we think we experienced. Pain is measured according to the depth of that loss or the importance of what was destroyed.
In brief, I would have to say my brain is pretty much screaming the obvious in my face these days.
